How tight should the stays be at rest? Underway the leeway side shows much slack.
What should be the angle of the mast from fore to aft be for best windward performance?

A pole indicated that a 6 degree mast rake is desirable. So I added a long shackle at the bottom of my, 2014 WR17, forestay to achieve 6 degree mast rake. Note: I also added AKA shims, to tension the shrouds. The shims did not change the mast rake. (see WR17 AKA SHIMS) also (see WR17 Back Stay Adjusters)
At rest the stays should be very snug. When you plunk them they should make thunk sound.
The shims should be inserted before you raise the mast.
