Had a WR17 6 years ago and sold it. Bought a 2007 last week. the rudder section is actually a separate bolt on to the main body. Never saw that before. Thoughts?

These boats are Roto molded. It is difficult to get a perfect amount of plastic in the right place for everything. I think they did this so that the stern and the rotor post could be made stronger.

I heard that when they moved locations, the mold for the main hull had to be shortened, so they decided to go with two pieces. On the minus side, it causes additional drag at the seam. On the plus side, if the seal around the rudder is leaking badly, there's a limited amount of water that will get in.

reard the same about the mold size.the rudders are junk no shape .ok for speeds to 14 knots then the boat gets squirrely. made a diffrent rudder but did not make the rudder post strong enough but the better shape seemed to work good in the brief time it was used will get back to it when it warms up. rudder can be seen on lucky lift sailing on you tube
