This is an easier way to step the mast by your self:
Bolt a boat roller near the top of the trailer winch post. (see picture)
Connect the jib head to the mast at the swivel. Position the mast to it's rotation ball. Thread the winch strap over the roller and attach it to the halyard. As you turn the winch handle the shrouds keep the mast from swinging left or right. Connect the jib tack to the jib furling spool .
If your winch doesn't have a bow stop, you may have to create one. (see picture) I have no trouble raising the mast with all shrouds connected. When raising or lowering the mast be sure to rotate the mast to a side, to prevent mast base binding.
Note: Instead of using the halyard, to raise the mast, you can add a dedicated raising line attached to the front of the mast (as you see in the picture). To be sure it is strong enough, I used a new WR17 halyard. The dedicated line raises the mast directly up (without having to move it in front of the shrouds). However, you still have to keep the mast rotated to a side when lowering the mast, in order to prevent mast base binding.

This is similar to my process, Richard, and it works in reverse to lower the mast also.

Nice one. I'm thinking of getting a WR17. Your post is very useful.
