Hi I am going to purchase a windrider 17, the owner send some pictures to me, from the pictures I found out this boas of mast looks broken to me, can someone please tell me what could happened cause this damage? I will post the picture I got from them

Hi Penny, I can't see your picture, but I can tell you how it probably happened. If a person puts the retaining pin the in the mast base and raises (or maybe lowers) the mast without the mast being turned sideways, it puts things in a bind and breaks the casting. I've seen many broken and the one on my old boat was broken but useable. I used it without the retaining pin for at least a year with no problems. I have seen a few mast bases on the Windrider 17 that have cracked. I am talking about the part that is on the aka of the boat where the mast ball is .I think that this is due to the casting not fitting real tight to the cross beams and there is a gap between the beam and the base. To help with this get some plastic heat it up and then bolt the mast base back in place this should eliminate the gap between the base and the crossbar.
