If you can get away from the steering pedals you don't have to be stuck in the pilot seat and can now rise up and sit on the rumble seat. Or you can use the rumble seat to transition in and out of the pilot seat with ease.
In my case I have remote steering (an autopilot) and often set a course and move to the rumble seat.
I made a pvc shelf that bolts to the pilot seat back and I covered the seat with rubber matt.
When the seat is up, the rumble seat rests on the cockpit coaming and when the seat is down, it lowers into the cockpit, far enough to install the cockpit cover.

Note: This modification is applicable to the newer WR17s that have white seats. The older WR17s with black seats have a different shape.
