I've just been lucky enough to buy a Windrider 17 in the UK. I'm told that the first owner had not sailed it for it's first 5 years (it seems that he bought a number of boats and became the UK importer) and the last owner sailed it for 1 year. So, I've got a nearly unused boat with serial number KZLWR531C515. How lucky is that !
Richard explained to another post that the last two numbers indicate the year of manufacture, so 2015.
In the UK, boats are assigned a sail number, which is unique to each boat and starts at 1 and increases for each boat made, no matter what year the boat was made. A boat would display the sail number on it's sail for identity purposes.
So, based on my serial number, what would the sail number be if any? Was my boat the 531st boat made in 2015, or the 531st boat made?
I was asked by my insurer what the sail number was. I gave them the full serial number.
Thanks for any replies.
