I have a completely untouched new WR17 hull and amas from the factory.
Not one piece of hardware has been attached and no holes have been drilled yet!
I'm looking for input on how I can set this baby up!
If you were me, what would you do? Would you install the floor a bit lower in the hull?
Would you install some custom bracing to strengthen certain areas, such as around the compression keel post?
I'm already planning on putting oversized backing plates for the tramps and flooring.
I'm also thinking of just glueing in a custom cradle to support the floor, instead of all those point loaded bolts along the hull.
I've had two other WR17's and they have all cracked in the same areas. I'd like to keep this one forever....
Let me know your thoughts,
And Thank you,
Dan

Dan: I've owned a number of Windriders, and the only ones that had any cracks were some of the very early ones. I haven't heard of any cracks on boats built in the last 15 or more years. I'd guess that I haven't seen or heard of a crack on any 2005 or later boat.
A consideration for the floor would be putting it at a level such that it could be self draining. That would mean putting the floor higher than standard.
I haven't spoken to the factory in a while - do you know if they have any more hulls or amas?

Thanks,
I was actually thinking about making the floor lower to afford more room. I would keep the manual bilge pump but perhaps add a small 12 volt as well.

i have a 2003 Windrider 17 modified .I put a plate where the compression post is at upper deck but i would also put one under the post .For the forestay tang i made mine to go along the bow like the stock plate and tied it into the aluminum sub structure where the cleat is at this also has the tube for the bow sprit which has a tang for the forestay to attach. a side stay goes to each aka to an eyebolt which goes into the holes when the boat is folded for trailering the third stay goes to the boat trailering eye. Another problem that i have seen is the aluminum mast step,i have seen several cracked as it does not fit snugly enough on the crossbeam. some more backing plates can be used in this area .i beefed up the shrouds because i have been using an asymmetrical spinnaker not the genoa that was sold by windrider. Dual steering would be nice on heavy air single handed sailing as the bow will tend to come up in higher winds . See videos on you tube : lucky lift sailing and andrea frees channel. Walcott Cup Regatta coming in June 2024 we have 3 Windrider 17s to race looking for more to join in 2 days of racing FREE REGISTRATION .You can launch your boat at the yacht club leave in water overnight
